Current Foster Needs

Dexter

Picture
Dexter is a happy-go-lucky guy with a lot of energy, who is back in boarding again.  He is about a year old and loves to play tug-of-war, fetch, and go on walks.  He is good with other dogs and seems to be good with children (with the limited interactions he has had).  Dexter needs a lot of exercise to burn off all that energy and would likely excel at some sort of dog sport like agility or frisbee.  He would also benefit from a series of obedience classes to work on manners and confidence and would likely excel with stable training.  Dexter is a good dog with tons of potential, but he really needs a stable environment--and a patient foster who is willing to work with him on training and ensure he gets plenty of activity.  See Dexter's adoption page for more information.  If you would be interested in long-term fostering Dexter until he is adopted, please contact us at foster@derbycitydogrescue.org or fill out a foster application here.

Dixie

Picture
Dixie is in boarding at this time, and we are literally running out of money. Dixie is a very affectionate, sweet, playful, housebroken, 4 year old girl with lots of energy. Her favorite thing is to run, but she also loves a good game of fetch. Dixie is great with kids, and enjoys their high energy. At the end of the day she will give you lots of kisses and curl up at your feet (if not in your lap). She definitely needs an active foster and a yard with a high fence, as she is able to jump over anything less than 4 feet. One of our board members has been working with her on basic commands and leash manners with great success.  Dixie would do best as an only dog or with one other submissive dog.  We have a trainer who has volunteered her time to work with Dixie and her foster.  See Dixie's adoption page for more information.  If you would be interested in long-term fostering Dixie until she is adopted, please contact us at foster@derbycitydogrescue.org or fill out a foster application here.

Hank

Picture
Hank is currently in boarding and would love to get out soon.  His first foster home didn't work out because his foster mom had cats and a small dog, and Hank had prey drive toward them.  His second simply didn't work out (through no fault of Hank's).  Hank has a typical hound personality, so he likes to explore, play, walk, and run.  Ideally, he needs a foster who can be firm and assertive with his training while giving him plenty of activity.  He has proven himself to be very responsive to commands and learning with positive reinforcement, but does need an outlet for his energy.  See Hank's adoption page for more information.  If you would be interested in long-term fostering Hank until he is adopted, please contact us at foster@derbycitydogrescue.org or fill out a foster application here.

Jill

Picture
Jill has lost her foster home, due to her talents as an escape artist, and is back in boarding. Jill is a sweet, friendly girl who loves people. She gets along with most other dogs but would do best in a household with no cats.  Jill is very athletic, can jump a 4-foot fence with ease, can climb, and loves to run.  She also loves kids and peanut butter!  See Jill's adoption page for more information. If you would be interested in long-term fostering Jill until she is adopted, please contact us at foster@derbycitydogrescue.org or fill out a foster application here.

Levi

Picture
Levi is a senior (approximately 10 years old) male Border Collie who was found running stray.  He is recent to our rescue and we are looking for a foster home to place him.  He has a (likely old) injury to his shoulder and has a permanent limp.  His teeth are pretty worn down, likely from chewing on a kennel or outside on a fence.  Other
than that, he is in good health. Levi is a sweet boy who seems to get along fine with other dogs and is curious about cats but has shown no signs of aggression toward them. See Levi's adoption page for more information.  If you would be interested in long-term fostering Levi until he is adopted, please contact us at foster@derbycitydogrescue.org or fill out a foster application here.

Wilson

Picture
Wilson is currently in a foster home that was supposed to be temporary but has overextended his stay.  A long term option is needed.  Wilson is a male Australian Cattle Dog/Pointer mix.  He is approximately 40-45 lbs. and about 2 years old.  He is house trained and does well in a crate.  Wilson has a sweet demeanor.  He enjoys being with people and does well with large and small dogs. He loves walks and is coming along well with basic commands.  He has not lived with children but has met several around the neighborhood with no issue.  Wilson would love to run and play in a fenced in yard or have an active foster who will ensure he gets a lot of exercise and fun time.  See Wilson's adoption page for more information.  If you would be interested in long-term fostering Wilson until he is adopted, please contact us at foster@derbycitydogrescue.org or fill out a foster application here.
